Three Canadian Cities Among Most Livable in the World

According to The Economist, Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary are among the five best cities for living in the world. The report estimates 140 cities, in five categories: stability, health, culture and the environment, education and infrastructure.

Melbourne and Vienna occupy the top two places, on the third - Vancouver, on the fourth - Toronto, and Calgary - divides the fifth place with Adelaide. This is the third year in a row when Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary, respectively, have taken these places in the ranking. Perth, Oakland, Helsinki and Hamburg are among the top ten.

In a unique research system, Vancouver is only 0.2% behind Melbourne, while Toronto is only 0.3% behind Melbourne.

All three Canadian cities scored 100 percent for health and education. Toronto and Calgary gained 100 percent for stability, and Vancouver gained 100 percent for culture and the environment.

In recent years, three Canadian cities have proved particularly attractive to immigrants. About half of the population of Toronto is immigrant and Vancouver is not far behind. Immigrants to Canada come either as economic migrants, through family sponsorship programs, or through programs of refugees and humanitarian organizations.

About 57 percent of the 300,000 new arrivals who are expected to arrive as permanent residents this year will go through economic programs, with the federal Express Entry system becoming the main drive
