The pilot program of immigration to the Atlantic provinces

On January 27, 2017 the government of Canada introduced the pilot program of immigration to the Atlantic provinces-Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador.
According to the statement from the government of Canada, the reduction in the region labor force and an aging population mean that "immigration of skilled workers is required to meet pressing labour market needs and to ensure long-term economic growth and continued success for Atlantic Canada."
This program was designed to improve the integration process for new immigrants who arrive through the program have a job offer and settlement plan.

The program focuses on the selection of candidates from among qualified employees from abroad and graduates of Canadian Universities.
In order to speed up the process of attracting qualified specialists in the framework of this program, the employer will not require LMIA to extend job offers to specialists from abroad. In addition, professionals will be able to get temporary work permits at the time while going through the immigration process and arrive in the Atlantic provinces with families to begin to work immediately.
Three Categories Defined

There are three broad categories contained within the pilot program:

  • The Atlantic High-Skilled Program (AHSP), targeting candidates with a qualifying job offer for a one-year contract for full-time employement in a position at level 0, A, or B of the National Occupational Classification (NOC);
  • The Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program (AISP), targeting candidates with a qualifying job offer of indeterminate duration for full-time employment in a position at level 0, A, B, or C of the NOC;
  • The Atlantic International Graduate Program (AIGP), targeting international graduates of post-secondary study programs of at least two years' duration, undertaken at a publicly-funded institution in the Atlantic region. Such graduates are also required to have a qualifying job offer
