Romanians, Bulgarians must now apply for eTA

Romanian and Bulgarian citizens no longer need a temporary resident visa to travel to Canada as of 9:00 on December 1, 2017.

However, like other visa-free passengers, all Romanian and Bulgarian citizens traveling to Canada by air will have to obtain an electronic entry permit (eTA) before landing a plane to Canada. This applies to all Romanian and Bulgarian citizens flying to Canada or through Canada. Romanians and Bulgarians who already have a valid Canadian visa are not required to apply for an eTA. eTA is only required for temporary residents (TRVs) who want to arrive in Canada by air.

Getting eTA is relatively simple. Candidates are asked to fill out some personal information and answer a few basic questions related to safety and medicine.

To fill out the online form, applicants need:

  • valid passport of the country.
  • a credit card to pay a commission fee of $ 7.
  • valid email address.

The note:

  • Citizens of Canada, including dual citizens, can not apply for eTA and need a valid Canadian passport for departure to Canada.
  • Canadian permanent residents (PR) must travel with a valid Canadian PR-card and a valid passport.
