Start-Up Visa Program

The Government of Canada stated that the Start-Up Visa program will become characteristic and more common for Canada's immigration field in 2018. In the coming months, the Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada (IRCC) will work on finalizing the rules of this program. The Start-Up Visa program is aimed at immigrant entrepreneurs ready to develop their companies in Canada. Candidates who have been selected are associated with organizations in Canada, where they can obtain funding and assistance in opening their company in Canada. Currently, more than 50 Canadian venture capital funds, angel investors and business incubators are participating in the program. Since 2013, 117 candidates have been selected under this program. These entrepreneurs represent 68 start-ups launched in Canada.

The government hopes that the number of immigrant-entrepreneurs will only increase. "Each company launched in Canada using the Start-Up Visa program works for the benefit of the Canadian economy," said Canadian Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen. "The Governmental Plan for Innovation and Development sets the main goal for the development of entrepreneurship and start-ups. This is vital for the current and future Canadian economy. Support for the Start-Up Visa program is fully in line with this plan. " An employee of Hussen's cabinet, Navdeep Bains, added that "Canadians benefit enormously from entrepreneurs who come from all corners of the globe to start business in our country"

Applicants for a Start-Up Visa must meet the following requirements:

• Have a level of English or French (CLB 5)

• Have sufficient funds for living in Canada

• Plan to live in any province other than the province of Quebec

• Prove that the business corresponds to the program

• To pass the selection according to the requirements of medicine and safety

No more than five foreign citizens can apply in the same business enterprise
